Would You Ever Date A "Hot" JW???
by minimus insuppose you met a hot jw.
would you ever consider dating the obvious "weak" witness and enjoy a possible fling or serious relationship?

Nope. Not a glutton for punishment. I'm one of those rare dudes who is attracted to inner beauty above looks. JWs are rotten inside.

Is it the JW's or the God of the bible you no longer believe?
by reniaa ini have a question for the ex-jw's on this forum after months of reading the forum..... many say how good it is to be free of the oppressiveness of the jw's that they can now enjoy the freedom to... have sex, celebrate christmas, gamble, embrace politics etc.
there are still biblical scriptures and principles in place that if you still followed the bible would mean you avoid these things and yet these are now embraced as one of the perks of no longer being a jw so in my confusion i ask.... if these are what you want, isn't it more correct to say you no longer follow the bible as apposed to just the jw's?.

I'm an atheist. I celebrate Christmas. Jesus is the furthest thing from my mind on Christmas Morning. Christmas, for me, is a day to get together with family & friends, enjoy a nice meal together, exchange some gifts, have a few laughs, and enjoy a nice nap on the couch later. The love & good cheer that is in the air is intoxicating. The smells, the lights, everything about it soothing & comforting.
I've heard JWs use the copout that they "are so glad that they don't have to participate in the whole gift shoping rat race". I'm sure I speak for most when I say that going out and getting/making something nice for someone you care about is a GREAT feeling.
I ask you this: If someone observes a holiday with absolutely no religious prerequisites, thoughts, or ideals, how could that possibly be construed as "unbiblical" If someone enjoys all the cool things that Christmas has to offer with any thoughts of it's origins or any salute to anything whatsoever pagan, how is it that they are saluting pagan tradtions & ideas?
The whole JW idea of obstaining from holidays is another brainwashing tactic designed to make the followers believe that they are somehow elevated from the rest of society, that they are better christians because they make the sacrifice to obstain from observing these "evil pagan days". It also makes them feel like martyrs because they don't get to have all the fun that everyone else is having because they love God so much more than everybody else. It's a load of bull.

what is bourbon? we don't get that here? or maybe we do and I just don't know what to look for?
Bourbon is America's Native Spirit.
Bourbon is a type of whiskey that, by law, must be made from no less than 51% corn. (Most on the market are at least 70% corn). Other grains such as rye, wheat, & barley are added to impart different flavors & characteristics.
Also by law, bourbon must be made in the United States. (95% of all bourbons are produced in Kentucky, where bourbon originated.)
Bourbon must be aged no less than two years in brand new, American white oak barrels (Most are aged a minimum of four years)
It must be distilled to no more than 160 proof (80% alcohol by volume) and bottled at no less than 80 proof (40% alcohol by volume)
It must also be made with all natural ingredients (No artificial coloring or flavoring, etc.)
The flavor of bourbon whiskey is noticably sweeter than some other whisk(e)ys due to the corn factor. In contrast Irish Whskey & Scotch whisky are made primarily from barley (single malt whisk(e)ys are made from 100% barley) Barley gives a drier, smokier flavor.
Jim Beam is the largest producer of bourbon. Wild Turkey & Sazerac are a couple of other large producers.

I agree. Although I live in Vancouver, WA, Portland is just across the Columbia River from where I live. In fact, I am closer to Downtown Portland than some of the people that live in the Portland suburbs.
This area is indeed beautiful. I work in the Corporate Office for McMenamins Pubs & Breweries, so I get drive around and enjoy thew scenery & get paid for it. My territroy goes from Roseburg (Southern Oregon) to Mill Creek (20 miles North of Seattle) to Bend (Central Oregon) to the Coast (Lincoln City & Gearhart).
The pic of the Downtown in Winter that you posted, Gregor, looks suspiciously like Stevenson (On the Washington side of the Gorge).

A privilege to know Jehovah
by Iwonder17 inso last night, a sister gies the following comment:.
" we should help our bible studies appreciate the privilege that they have to know jehovah".
all of the dubs were nodding their heads and saying ooohhh and ahhhh under their breath.

It struck me funny since I would figure that a loving god would not want to consider it a privilege for us to get to know him. Am I way off, or does that sound weird.
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. By the same argument, would a LOVING god:
Wipe out entire cities & civilizations?
Kill women, old people, & children?
Destroy families?
Allow all the pain, suffering, disease, war, etc if he could, by his own hand, cause it to cease?
There is no God.

I'm with daniel-p on this one.
Single Malt Scotch Whisky for me, please. Preferably a nice smoky, peaty Islay Malt like Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroiag, or Port Charlotte.
I drink it neat.
I also enjoy a good small-batch bourbon like Russell's Reserve, Makers Mark, Eagle Rare, Woodford Reserve, Blanton's, Basil Hayden's, Knob Creek, & my all-time favorite bourbon-Pappy Van Winkle.
I also like my bourbon served neat.
A quality, hand-crafted micro-brew ale to back up the whisk(e)y is always nice too.

Hey Low-Key.
Good to see you again. Been almost 2 months.
That was nice of you to say. Thank you.
I popped in due to being home sick on the couch with nothing to do. After reading this thread, I wish I hadn't.

Hmmmmmm.......?.....Well.....The only thing that I'm going to take away from this thread is that Brother Apostate appears to be a real self-righteous, judgemental asshole.
Palin obviously failed this debate. Her question dodging and circular, canned answers were nothing short of verbal diarhhea.
